DRU workshops
Recently I attended the Dru workshop in Brisbane. Overweight, tired and in pain I walked into the workshop apprehensive. However, the warmth and support of Trish and all the teachers melted away my anxiety. Not only was I able to participate and complete the full day workshop, I finished the day feeling wonderful mentally and physically. In has been just two weeks since the workshop and I now regularly practise Dru, have started to lose weight, feel stronger and now want to work towards Dru teacher training in 2014.
All this from someone who hasn't exercised in years, has neck and back injuries and is overweight. Meeting Dru has switched something in my brain, I can't explain it except to say, I am home.

Dru for the Workplace
One of the many things that Dru has helped me with is to reduce stress in my life and be more balanced. My teaching focus is on developing programs to take into the workplace and Corporate yoga and many of my students work in high stress professions e.g Lawyers, Medical. Because I have operated in stressful environments I recognise this in my students and give them tools to help them to relieve stress and find some stillness in their busy lives, and to be in the present moment as much as they can. - Martine, Manager, Australian Public Service
My relationship with my new Manager had been very challenging for many months. Recently I decided to use Dru Yoga’s Heart breathing instead of confrontation, and the effect was almost unbelievable. Our next meeting went well, and later that day she sent me a warm and grateful email. It’s the first time she’s ever sent me anything positive. Wow, so simple yet so powerful. - Meredith, Community Health Nurse, Melbourne

Dru Dance
Dru Dance: I would recommend a Dru Dance weekend with Jes Scharbow as an uplifting and fun experience to anyone with a knowledge of Dru Yoga. The physical co-ordination required combined with dynamic movements ensures plenty of stretching and strengthening, remembering the sequence encourages right and left brain communication, plenty of laughter brings emotional wellbeing and deep relaxation nurtures the spirit. I loved it. - Annabel, Psychologist and Dru Yoga teacher, Byron Bay

I am a middle aged woman with a diagnosis of PTSD, CFS, and prolapsed discs. I have tried physio, pain management courses and massage for the past 6 years with some success however NOTHING measures up to the feeling I get after Dru Yoga. It’s like I start off feeling a little down, stressed and lethargic and finish in a much more enlightened, peaceful zone. Driving home from Dru Yoga I am aware of the sunshine, the beauty of the trees, the smiles or frowns on other drivers faces. Everything is relaxed within me and I find the feeling lasts for nearly 2 weeks! - Belinda, In recovery, Berwick
Since starting Dru Yoga in September 2003 I have found it very beneficial in many ways. I have found the exercises to be relaxing and strengthening. For example, I walk straight and tall, and my back is relaxed. I find the breathing and stretching calming. I have been recommending this form of yoga to my friends, particularly those who find exercise difficult. - J Wallasey, UK

Dru Yoga Classes
Following laser surgery, early in 2010, I suffered a dangerous stair fall resulting in injuries to my right knee and back with further back trauma during the year. I could barely feel my ‘core’ post laser surgery and could hardly walk. I was fast losing confidence in my own health and wellbeing. In order to start walking again, I sought both acupuncture and physiotherapy. Once walking again, I began looking around for types of exercise that would safely strengthen my core and back, without causing further injury. Luckily for me in October 2010, a very good teacher trainer friend in Dru Yoga encouraged me to attend Dru Yoga Classes. Since then, confidence in my health has improved greatly:- physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. The most important thing about Dru Yoga is that no matter what your age or your condition, it can be adapted and practised according to your own physical health requirements. My teachers guidance is always there for each and every one of her students. With time, patience and practise, everything can become possible once again and you can get your life back on track and extend yourself further. Now, not only do I have the confidence to practice dru yoga and pilates every day in my own home as well as in classes, but I have also been able to get back to my social/working life, safely continue my (solo) walks and I am soon planning a return to the swimming pool. I would recommend Dru Yoga for everyone, from children right through to the aged, no matter what disabilities or health problems. The many relaxational and health benefits speak for themselves! - Michelle , Administrative Assistant, Mum and Carer At the last yoga session we did a new movement for clear thinking or clarity. I really enjoyed the physical movement at the time but my teacher also said to watch out for other effects. Well! I just wanted to share – from nowhere some issues that had been lurking but not being addressed pushed their way to the front and I found that I could address them after shying away from them for quite some time. Now, I don’t know if it is coincidence or what, but thought I wanted to tell you! That is some movement! Many thanks Denise, Customer Service Manager, Canberra In 2004 I suffered a lower back injury while I was working for the Australian Army. After the injury, I received physiotherapy which helped my condition to improve in the short term. I suffered incredible pain from sitting, standing but especially trying to do everyday things like carry shopping bags or lift heavy items.
After seeing a specialist and considering my circumstances, I decided to get regular physio treatment and start practising yoga again like I had years before.
I started Dru Yoga in 2007 and have noticed considerable changes and improvements to both my lifestyle and level of back pain. I am running again, lifting light weights and able to do gardening and shopping.
I find the breathing techniques, combined with slow and controlled movements, ideal for anyone who has experienced back pain or has suffered an injury. It has taken me some time to recover, but I am certain Dru Yoga has been a big part on the road to full recovery. - Laura, University Student ACT
'The way the classes are presented doesnt just give me yoga instruction, it givves me skills for life'. - Nathalie, Professional Speaker, Melbourne 'Dru Yoga has impacted my life in more ways than I could ever have imagined. This is fantastic for my passion for life, my family and my work. I don’t really understand how it all works but I am learning that I just need to trust that it does.' -Kim, Natural Horsemanship Instructor, Geelong

'I found Dru Yoga by accident. I was attending a horse riding clinic that started the day with a yoga class. Yoga had never interested me before because of my inflexibility. Dru Yoga was different. It was fun and easy. I didn’t have to bend in all different directions. It connected with me because there was a link with my love of the outdoors and nature. It linked in with my need to be calm around horses as well as balanced and co-ordinated. Since there was no teacher in my area I decided to do the teacher training course so I could develop these skills to help with my horsemanship, but what I have been learning has amazed me. It has changed my whole outlook on life. I have gone from dealing with depression, to starting up a whole new business working with kids and horses. To do this I need to be very grounded and relaxed yet extremely motivated and energized. I don’t have to do Yoga everyday to get these benefits but I do live it. There is something in Dru for everyone, at every level, at any stage in life. The teachers will always make you feel successful, included and aim it to what YOU need. Dru Yoga isn’t just a form of exercise, it can become a way of life that can help with you deal with many different things that life can throw at you. You just need to open your heart and mind and the rest will be life changing.' -Kim, Natural Horsemanship Instructor, Geelong

Volunteering with DruAfter completing the Dru Yoga Teachers Training Course in 2004, I have been making regular trips to the Dru Course Centre in North Wales and other Dru Centres to volunteer during my holidays. While most people cannot understand why I travel all the way from Africa to North Wales to ‘work’, it is very clear to me and here are some of the reasons:
- The DYTT course was a powerful life-transformation experience, but it is through volunteering at the DRU centre that have learned the most about applying the DRU values and yogic principles into my daily life – especially in the working environment.
- Working with the DRU team as a volunteer has taught me more about leadership, teamwork and working relationships than anything else I have ever done, and my projects and businesses at home are thriving - directly because of what I have learned as a volunteer.
- As a volunteer, I get to work with some of my best friends, for a good cause, in a stunning environment with great food! And when I need a break, I am in the Nant Ffrancon Valley!
- As a volunteer, I get to help in the process of transformation – contributing to group after group of people coming to the Centre and “getting happy”
- I have brought a number of family members and friends with me to volunteer and everyone has loved it as much as I do.
- Even though I probably work as hard as a volunteer as I do the rest of the year, I leave the Dru Course Centre feeling recharged, healthy and fulfilled.
I fully recommend volunteering at the Dru Course Center as an alternative holiday destination and a Win-Win situation. - Paul, Senior Technical Advisor, Ministry of Health, Kenya
